DIY Flavored Salt

The perfect activity for an upcoming girls night or a sweet (and salty) homemade gift for a friend.

This past weekend I hosted my bestie’s bachelorette party where we made our own flavored seasoning salts of choice. I set up a whole station for each girl with all necessary herbs and seasonings, mortar and pestles, personalized jars, and example menus.

What You’ll Need

  • Salt – I like to use a high moisture salt because it helps the seasoning grip onto the salt. This Aztec Coarse Unrefined Sea Salt from Amazon is my favorite.
  • Herbs & Seasonings – You can either follow my recommendations bellow or make your own! The good thing about this is that you can use whatever herbs and seasonings your heart desires, there’s not fixed recipe. Make up your own concoction or get inspired by your favorite handcrafted salt company. (ex Jacobsen Salt & Maison Cote)
  • Mortar and Pestle – I recommended you use a mortar and pestle to grind all of the herbs and seasonings together. This will help release the oils which will then attach to and flavor the salt.
  • Jar – I love these simple glass jars from The Container Store.

Directions

  1. Add your herbs and seasonings to the mortar and pestle. Grid them all together until they are fine.
  2. Measure out your salt in the jar leaving a little bit of extra space for the seasonings. Pour out the salt in the mortar and pestle and mix all of the ingredients together.
  3. Pour the salt back into the jar using a piece of paper turned into a funnel.

Recipe Ideas

–Rose Petal and Raspberry: food grade rose petals, dehydrated raspberries, rosemary, and salt

–Steak Rub: smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, pepper, brown sugar, and salt

-Italian: basil, garlic, and salt

–Garlic Salt: garlic powder and salt

–Zesty Salty: Lime zest and salt
